Vol. 338 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Revenue Commissioners Offices.

14.

asked the Minister for the Public Service when he proposes to proceed with his plans for the proposed decentralisation of the Revenue Commissioners; and when he proposes to commence the building of the offices for the Revenue Commissioners at Charlotte's Quay, Limerick.

The purchase of the site at Charlotte's Quay to which the Deputy refers is at present being negotiated between the Office of Public Works and Limerick Corporation. There have been certain unavoidable technical problems about the purchase which I understand are now being overcome. Only when the site purchase is concluded can the planning and design of the offices be finalised. As much preliminary work as possible has already been done on the design of the proposed offices. At the same time work has been, and is, proceeding on planning the organisational, personnel and structural arrangements that will arise with the relocation of a section comprising some 800 staff. No effort will be spared to enable construction to commence at the earliest possible date.
