Vol. 338 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Political Asylum.

234.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will detail the arrangements for the reception at Shannon Airport of persons disembarking from Soviet aircraft who seek political asylum.

In the nature of things there cannot be nor is there any need for any formal arrangement for what is a very rare occurrence. The few instances that have occurred in recent years where a passenger has sought to break his flight at Shannon while on a flight to or from the Soviet Union have not been considered to be cases where political asylum came in question.
