Vol. 339 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Road Traffic Danger.

16.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has satisfied himself that there is no danger to children attending Laghey national school, County Donegal, in view of the close proximity of the school to the new national primary route.

The road improvement scheme at present nearing completion allows for the provision of such road safety measures as may be necessary at this location, in the opinion of the local authority.

I would remind Deputies that this question is confined to a small area of County Donegal.

Mr. Coughlan

In view of the fact that this new national primary route is very close to the grounds of the national school and that there is quite a degree of tidying up to be done in terms of access not only to the school but to the village of Laghey, would the Minister ensure that in the 1983 allocations sufficient funds will be made available to ensure that there is proper access to the village and that there would be no danger to the children attending the school?

Obviously, the Deputy is much more familiar with the area than I am but I understand that the county council are examining proposals regarding the provision of a bus bay, the lengthening of the under-pass adjacent to the school and also improvements to the junction between Laghey village and the by-pass. I understand that these changes would go a long way towards allaying the anxiety expressed by the Deputy.
