Vol. 339 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

925.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange for the immediate payment of cattle headage grants to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person named has been paid all cattle grants due to him under the various headage schemes with the exception of an EEC Suckler Cow Premium which will be paid shortly.

926.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange for the immediate payment of a 1982 beef cow scheme grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

My Department had no record of receipt of an application in this case but as the person named swore an affidavit in December 1982 to the effect that he had originally submitted one, a late application was accepted and his herd inspected on 19 January 1983. As a result of this inspection, his application is now under query and his eligibility for payment of the beef cow scheme grant will be determined when he replies to the query raised.

927.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange for the immediate payment of suckler cow grants to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

It is a condition of the EEC Suckler Cow Premium Scheme that an applicant must earn at least 50 per cent of his income from farming. As this applicant has admitted that he did not earn 50 per cent of his income from farming he is ineligible for payment of suckler cow grants for 1981. His eligibility for the 1982 suckler cow premium will be determined when he furnishes details of his off-farm earnings for that year.

928.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange for the immediate payment of a land drainage grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

Investigation of the application in question has disclosed that the only outlet available is not adequate to cater for the anticipated water-flow from the catchment area. In the circumstances it is not feasible to design an effective drainage scheme in this case.

The question of grant-aid does not, therefore, arise.

929.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange for the immediate payment of a beef production transfer grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person named applied under the EEC Scheme of Premiums for Non-Marketing of Milk and was paid the first instalment in February 1981. The second instalment, falling due between October 1982 and October 1983, will be paid as soon as the applicant signs the special identity cards issued under the scheme in respect of his dairy animals and returns them to the Department.
