asked the Minister for the Environment the total moneys paid by local authorities in each of the last ten years in respect of malicious damage claims; and the total paid by each local authority in each year in respect of such claims.

asked the Minister for the Environment the total moneys paid by each local authority in each of the last ten years out of their own resources in respect of malicious damage claims; and the total paid by the Government to each local authority in reimbursing any payments made.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 440 and 441 together. The information sought by the Deputy for 1973 to 1975, inclusive, is not available in my Department. For 1976 to 1981 I would refer the Deputy to the following publications.

1976 — Returns of Local Taxation, Tables 13 and 27 (property damage) 1977 to 1979 — Returns of Local Taxation, Tables 14 and 28 (property damage)

1980 and 1981 — Local Authority Estimates Tables 14 and 25 (property damage)

(Note: The receipts shown in the above tables refer to Government grants).

Provisional figures for 1982 are set out in the form of a tabular statement which I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.
