asked the Minister for Labour the number of persons in respect of whom assistance was given in 1982 under the employment incentive scheme in the following categories: (a) manufacturing, (b) agriculture, (c) hotel and catering, (d) building and (e) other services.

In 1982, premiums were paid in respect of 5,527 persons recruited under the employment incentive scheme in that year.

The number recruited by sector are set out in the following table:

asked the Minister for Labour the amount of money available in the 1983 Estimates for the employment incentive scheme in the Vote for his Department.

A provision of £4.88 million was made for the employment incentive scheme in the 1983 Estimates for Public Services published in November 1982. This provision is being looked at as part of the re-examination of estimates in connection with the forthcoming budget.
