asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any plans in regard to the treatment plant at Baldonnel, County Dublin, i.e. its removal to an area less adjacent to growing populations; and if there are any plans to control dumping in the Tallaght area.

The arrangements generally relating to the development of the proposed central facility for certain wastes have been under review, taking account of all the relevant considerations. I expect to make a decision on the development programme shortly.

In so far as the second part of the question is concerned, this is a matter for the local authority. The Litter Act, 1982 considerably strengthened the powers of local authorities to deal with litter and related problems such as abandoned vehicles and unsightly accumulations of vehicles and other disused articles.
