Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

306.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if this will be provided as a matter of top priority having regard to the fact that he paid the deposit on 12 October 1982 and was promised a connection within twelve weeks.

When the person named was invited to sign an agreement and make advance payment it was expected that telephone service would be provided within about three months.

Regrettably, this was not possible because of an unforeseen difficulty. It is expected that service will be provided within about a month.

307.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in providing a telephone service for persons (details supplied) in County Kerry as they applied several years ago.

314.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will as a matter of urgency restore a telephone service, which was disconnected on 7 January 1983 for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford, as his account was paid on 7 December 1982; and if an apology will be issued to the subscriber and a guarantee given that a reconnection fee will not be charged.

The telephone account in this case was issued on 9 November and a final account was issued on 1 December stating that service would be disconnected if payment was not received within seven days. The bill was not paid until 14 January, an incorrectly endorsed cheque received earlier having been returned to the subscriber on 13 December for correction.

Arrangements to disconnect were initiated on 13 January for non-payment and were put into effect on 20 January before the payment was credited to the subscriber's account. Service was restored on 24 January. The problem in this instance arose from the delay of over two months on the part of the subscriber in making valid payment. However, as service was disconnected a few days after payment, I have arranged that a reconnection fee will not be charged.
