Vol. 339 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cork Accident and Emergency Department.

348.

asked the Minister for Health when a decision will be made on the proposals to build a new accident emergency unit in the North Infirmary Hospital, Cork.

I have accepted, in principle, that an accident and emergency department should be provided in one of the voluntary hospitals in Cork city. I am considering proposals in relation to the establishment of a second accident and emergency department in Cork. I do not expect to be in a position to make any decision on this matter for some months until I have reviewed the financial situation for the health services, and until I have had an opportunity to consult with health boards, hospitals and other relevant bodies.
