asked the Minister for Agriculture when the final payment of a dairy herd conversion grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

The final instalment of the premium under this Scheme will be paid to the person named before the due date, 5 April 1983, if the final inspection of his herd which is now being arranged shows that he has complied with the terms and conditions of the scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange for a farm modernisation scheme grant to be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

The local office of the Department have not yet been notified by the applicant that the work has been completed. When notification is received a final inspection will be carried out and if the work is satisfactorily completed the grant will be paid without delay.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if applications for grants under the western drainage scheme received by his Department after 1 October 1981 are not being considered, despite the fact that only one half of the 150,000 hectares being provided for under the scheme has so far been completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Sufficient applications were received under the western drainage scheme up to 30 September 1981 to absorb the 150,000 hectares approved by the EEC which meets 50 per cent of the cost of the scheme. It was decided early last year to defer the processing of applications received after that date.

At 31 December 1982 approvals had isued in 24,500 cases covering approximately 135,000 hectares. Over 15,500 schemes involving 85,700 hectares have been completed.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason for the long delay in paying a dairy herd conversion grant to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry.

Part of the first instalment of the premium under the scheme of premiums for conversion of dairy herds was paid to the person named on 6 April 1982 but the balance is being witheld until he can prove to the satisfaction of my Department that he disposed of a number of missing animals in accordance with the requirements of the scheme. The second instalment of the premium will not fall due before 3 November 1983.

428.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason for the long delay in paying EEC cattle headage and suckling grants to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry.

As the person named did not reply to a query until 28 January 1983 payment of a cattle headage grant under the disadvantaged areas schemes was delayed. Payment will, however, be made shortly. Payment under the EEC suckler cow premium scheme will not fall due until April 1983 when the six months retention period specified in that scheme expires.

There is no record of receipt of an application form under the 1982 cattle headage scheme in the disadvantaged areas from the person named.
