Vol. 339 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Building Policy.

453.

asked the Minister for Education if there is a new policy in her Department not to build any more new schools but to transport children to existing schools by bus regardless of their number or the distance they have to travel.

My Department intend to continue to provide new post-primary school buildings where they are considered to be necessary. The availability of places in existing post-primary schools within a reasonable distance has always been a factor taken into account in determining the post-primary school requirements of newly developing areas.

With regard to primary education new primary schools will continue to be provided in areas of expanding child population in accordance with perceived needs and taking into account the provisions already made for primary education in the areas in question.
