Vol. 339 No. 11

Written Answers. - Vehicle Testing.

196.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his Department will appoint inspectors to supervise vehicle testing stations and ensure that testing is carried out properly.

Testing of vehicles under the vehicle testing scheme other than taxis is being carried out by testers appointed by the local authorities. The local authorities are primarily responsible for ongoing monitoring of the testing scheme in their areas, including checking on the manner in which tests are being carried out. Each local authority have appointed an authorised officer for this purpose. In addition, six officers of my Department have been appointed to advise and assist the local authorities in monitoring the scheme.
