Vol. 340 No. 1

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Leitrim Estate.

13.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when the Dickson estate at Tawly, Tullaghan, County Leitrim, will be acquired by the Land Commission for division among congests in the area.

Proceedings have been instituted by the Land Commission for the acquisition of this estate. An objection to acquisition has been lodged and will be listed for hearing before the Lay Commissioners in due course.

Owing to the fact that there are a number of small, congested farms in that area the Government should do everything possible to try to have this land divided because this is the only piece of good land that has come up in this area. It is the only big farm and it has been purchased by foreigners. I hope for the sake of the farmers of the small congested farms in this part of County Leitrim and Sligo that the land will be divided among them and that proceedings will go ahead on that as soon as possible.
