Vol. 340 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

223.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to pay unemployment assistance to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as he is in very bad circumstances.

The person concerned is not entitled to unemployment assistance as the amount of means assessed against him exceeded the statutory limit. Means in his case are derived from land.

He appealed against the amount of means assessed against him but an appeals officer upheld the decision in his case.

224.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a person (details supplied) in County Galway is eligible for dental treatment under his pay related social insurance.

According to the records of my Department the person concerned is at present qualified for dental benefit.

A claim which was received on 20 December 1982 was approved on 10 February 1983 and both the claimant and dentist were notified accordingly on that date.

225.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment benefit will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person concerned has no record of insurable employment and is accordingly not qualified for unemployment benefit.

He claimed unemployment assistance and following the completion of inquiries he was assessed with means of £28.50 weekly derived from his land. He is accordingly entitled to unemployment assistance at the weekly rate of £15.45 being the maximum rate payable to him £43.95 less means £28.50.

Arrangements have been made to pay all arrears due to him this week. Further weekly payments at £15.45 will be made as they become due.

226.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will restore unemployment benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Galway who has been in hospital but who has now recovered.

The person concerned was a postal applicant for unemployment assistance prior to his admission to hospital.

He has been issued with a postal application form to enable him to renew his claim following discharge from hospital.

The matter of restoring payment of unemployment assistance will be dealt with as soon as he returns the completed form.
