Vol. 340 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Offaly School Closure.

11.

asked the Minister for Education the present position concerning the proposed closure of Cadamstown national school, Birr, County Offaly.

It is intended that the school at Cadamstown will close and be amalgamated with the school in Kinnitty as soon as the present building work in Kinnitty is completed. This work was carried out on foot of an agreement reached in 1974 for the amalgamation of Longford and Cadamstown schools with the school at Kinnitty.

As the Minister is probably aware, there have been continuous representations from all interested parties in regard to having Cadamstown school renamed because the distance from Cadamstown to Kinnitty is over five miles——

A question please, Deputy.

Would the Minister have a further look at this matter because there is a lot of disquiet and annoyance in regard to Cadamstown school being closed?

The whole question of the amalgamation of those three schools and the progress towards starting Kinnitty school is under review in the Department.
