Vol. 340 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Allocations.

32.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of money being allocated to Kerry County Council this year for roads.

33.

asked the Minister for the Environment the 1983 road allocation for County Donegal.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 32 and 33 together.

I will notify road authorities generally of the amounts of their 1983 road grant allocations as soon as possible.

When considering the allocation of money for each county would the Minister take into consideration the condition of the roads in County Kerry and have a substantial allocation made to his own county?

I can assure the Deputy that I will be taking into consideration the condition of the roads in County Kerry and, in conjunction with the other question, likewise in County Donegal for Deputy P. Gallagher.

In view of the fact that the Minister has not been in County Donegal—and he will be more than welcome any time—will he accept what I tell him now in good faith, that the roads in Donegal are worse than the roads in the Sahara and would he give us a more than substantial allocation?

I shall have to confine myself to the roads in counties Donegal or Kerry, never having been to the Sahara. Certainly I will take what the Deputy says in good faith. I think I will be visiting Donegal in the very near future when I shall see some new roads that have been built there in the recent past.

34.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the extremely dangerous condition of roads in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the needs of the roads in County Donegal and I assure the deputy that I will bear them in mind in my consideration of the road grant allocations for 1983.
