asked the Minister for Justice the reason construction work on the juvenile detention centre in Cork has been postponed.

, Limerick East): The need for economy in public expenditure required that a costly programme such as the prison capital programme be re-examined and priorities within it established. It has, accordingly, been decided to postpone any further expenditure on the proposed place of detention in Cork. The position will be reviewed when the Estimates for 1984 are being prepared. Meantime work is proceeding unabated on other projects, including the other place of detention, which is being built in Clondalkin, County Dublin.
