Vol. 340 No. 8

Written Answers. - Yellow Box Junctions.

317.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will clarify the position in regard to the implementation of yellow box junctions.

Box junction markings are authorised by the Road Traffic (Signs) (Amendment) Regulations, 1971 (S.I. No. 127 of 1971). Their provision is a matter for the road authority concerned acting at the request, or with the consent, of the Garda Commissioner and is proceeding on this basis.

Recent legal advice obtained by the Commissioner suggests that the use of box junction markings should be restricted to controlled junctions. This aspect is being borne in mind in the context of a comprehensive review of traffic sign regulations, which is in progress.
