Vol. 340 No. 8

Written Answers. - Gort (Galway) Regional Water Scheme.

318.

asked the Minister for the Environment when it is hoped to hold a public inquiry in order that he will confirm the water rights order for the Gort regional scheme, County Galway.

It is not yet possible to arrange a public local inquiry into this proposal because the county council have not acquired lands required for the scheme.

It is now understood that a compulsory purchase order is being prepared for the lands and that the council intend to publish notice of the making of the order, and of proposals for a reservoir which would be part of the project, in the near future. When the full proposals have been received the public inquiry arrangements will be decided without avoidable delay.
