asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a breakdown of the savings of £2 million in the provision of arterial drainage as a result of the deferral of each of the following surveys; (a) Boyle/Bonet; (b) Shannon; and (c) Dunkellin, County Galway.

On the basis of a review of the proposals for arterial drainage in 1983, it has been decided that a provision will be made in the Vote for Public Works and Buildings to allow work on the Boyle and Bonet schemes to proceed. In addition specialist studies already in hands, which are required in connection with the design of the Dunkellin scheme and to which the Commissioners of Public Works have contractual commitments, will continue. In the circumstances the saving of £2 million will be achieved by reapportioning the funds available for arterial drainage among the various drainage projects. I am not yet in a position to give precise details as to how these funds will be reapportioned.
