Vol. 340 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Natural Gas Supply.

17.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he will give details of the life expectancy of the natural gas field.

The life expectancy of the Kinsale Head field will be determined by the rate at which the recoverable reserves of gas in place will be depleted.

On the basis of the known reserves of the field, policy on allocation of gas will be such as to ensure supplies to the premium market for the periods for which contracts are entered into. All major potential premium markets have been identified and can be catered for. In general, supplies of gas from the Kinsale field are not expected to be depleted before the turn of the century. By timely revision of depletion policy the production life of the field could be significantly extended if another source of gas did not become available.

May I have a written reply to Question No. 63 on today's Order Paper. I appreciate you did not have an opportunity at the end of Question Time, but seeing that the House rises this evening until next week I asked you this morning if I could raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of Question No. 83 on yesterday's Order Paper, on taxation and job applications.

The Deputy will appreciate that until Question Time was over it was not possible to do that.

The point I want to make is that taxation and job applications are of great concern to parents and young school-going children at the present time throughout the country particularly the way in which the Minister is doing it now.

The Deputy cannot raise it in the manner in which he is doing now.

Will you give priority to this for this afternoon?

All matters will be taken into consideration.

I would like to ask if you would give me permission to raise on the Adjournment the question of Ireland's participation in the Los Angeles Olympic Games next year.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

The remaining questions will appear on next Tuesday's Order Paper.
