Vol. 340 No. 10

Written Answers. - Payment to County Limerick Teacher.

603.

asked the Minister for Education the reason no payment has been made by her Department to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick; and the reason her office failed to respond to repeated her request by Deputy Willie O'Dea for a letter which would set out the reasons despite numerous promises to do so.

The teacher in question could not be paid salary by the Department of Education until it was established that the qualifications he possesses were acceptable to the registration council. His qualifications have now been accepted for purposes of registration and salary was issued to him on 17 February 1983 in respect of the period 1 August 1982 to 31 January 1983. Payment of salary in respect of the month of February, 1983 will be made in the normal way.

I am having inquiries made in relation to the allegation in the question from the Deputy that he made repeated requests for certain information in connection with the matter.
