Vol. 340 No. 12

Written Answers - Telephone Service.

164.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when an application for a telephone service was made by a person (details supplied) in County Dublin; the reason for the delay in providing service; and when service will be provided.

It is expected that service will be provided for the person named, who applied on 23 August 1982, within about a year.

It is not possible to provide service earlier because of the large volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the 01 area.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason automatic dialling between Cashel and Tipperary (062) Clonmel (052) lines is so unsatisfactory; and the action he proposes to improve this service.

There is some exchange congestion which affects direct dialling between Cashel-Tipperary and Cashel-Clonmel. Recently some relief was given by the provision of 12 extra trunk circuits in the area. This has improved the situation. Further improvement will be made within the next three to six months on the provision of extra trunks and the opening of the new digital exchanges at Waterford and Limerick.
