asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the total amount paid by his Department for the latest year for which figures are available for motor accidents involving vehicles from his Department; the number of accidents involved; and the percentage of the total fleet that they represent.

: In 1982£385,414.78 was paid out in respect of compensation (including compensation for personal injuries) arising from traffic accidents involving the Department's motor vehicles. The number of accidents was 386 representing 7.5 per cent of the fleet.
