Written Answers . - Citizen Band Radio .

793.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when citizen band radio will be legalised in Ireland; and if the legalisation will allow for the use of radio on AM frequency with 27 megahertz providing 360 channels.

: The Wireless Telegraphy (Personal Radio Licence) Regulations 1982 which came into force on 25 January 1982 provide for the licensing of citizen band radio. Only equipment operating in the 27 megahertz band using frequency modulation (FM) with a maximum of 40 channels and with a maximum transmitter output power of 4 watts may be licensed.
