Vol. 341 No. 6

Written Answers . - School Grants .

1132.

asked the Minister for Education if she will investigate the application for primary school transport for a person (details supplied) in County Longford.

: The pupil in question is ineligible for transport under the terms of the primary school transport scheme. She cannot be accommodated as a concessionary fare-paying passenger at present as the vehicle which operates the school transport service in the area is catering for a capacity load.

1133.

asked the Minister for Education when a school repair grant will be allocated for a national school (details supplied) in County Westmeath as it was sanctioned last autumn; and if she will consider the parents' and the manager's urgent need for a grant to cover repairs to the schoolyard which is in a dreadful condition.

: A grant has been sanctioned towards the cost of improvement works at Drumraney national school, County Westmeath. Payment of the grant is a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works.

1134.

asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath was refused second level school transport free of charge when her health and physical condition merited special consideration; if she will review this case in the light of these special circumstances; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

: I am having the case specially reviewed in my Department. If the Department are satisfied that the pupil is seriously handicapped and is precluded from making her own way to school by virtue of her disability, the school transport charges will be waived in her case.
