Written Answers . - Civil Service Staffing Cut-backs .

asked the Minister for Education if she will give in tabular form the following information in respect of her Department so that it can be established that the cut-backs in civil service staffing have been effectively and fairly spread as between the different grades and the various categories of personnel; (a) the number of approved posts on 13 July, 1981; (b) the number of posts filled on 18 February, 1983; and (c) the percentage of approved posts vacant on 1 February, 1983 in each of the following grades: secretary, deputy secretary, assistant secretary; principal officer, assistant principal officer, higher executive officer; and executive officer; and if she will give similar information in respect of professional and technical officers at principal officer to executive officer level inclusive (either directly linked or closely related to the general administrative grades referred to).

: The following is the information requested by the Deputy in respect of the Department of Education: (a) The number of approved posts on 18 July 1981 was 1,217; (b) The number of posts filled on 18 February 1983 was 1,183; (c) The percentage of approved posts in the grades specified by the Deputy and in corresponding levels of professional and technical grades vacant on 1 February 1983 was as follows:
