: The person concerned is receiving unemployment assistance at the weekly rate of £36.45 being the appropriate maximum rate in his case of £57.95 less means £21.50. He applied for a review of his means on 10 March 1983. asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason disability benefit has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo who is a qualified applicant.

: The person concerned claimed disability benefit for the periods from 25 February to 5 March 1980, 14 December 1982 to 1 January 1983 and 10 January to 17 January 1983.

Her claim from 25 February to 5 March 1980 was governed by the 1978-79 contribution year. She was not qualified for payment on this claim as she had only nine reckonable contributions paid in that year. Her further 43 reduced rate contributions paid in that year are not reckonable for disability benefit.

All benefit payable on her claims for December 1982 and January 1983 has been paid. Owing to an administrative error, a delay occurred in the issue of payment on the claim for December 1982.

: The person concerned applied for unemployment assistance on 23 December 1982. Following inquiries he was assessed with nil means. Unemployment assistance has been authorised at the weekly rate of £70.80 being the appropriate maximum rate in his case. All arrears due will be paid to him this week. He ceased signing the unemployed register on 24 March 1983.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a deserted wife's allowance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

: The claim of the person concerned to deserted wife's allowance/benefit was disallowed on the ground that her husband did not of his own volition leave her. She was notified of the decision, and of her right to appeal within 21 days if she is dissatisfied with it, on 18 April 1983.

677.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in paying disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

: The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 14 February 1983 to 4 April 1983. He was not qualified for benefit at the commencement of his claim as according to the records of the Department, he had less than the required minimum of 26 contributions paid since entry into insurable employment.

It was subsequently established that he had a total of 27 contributions in 1981-82, the contribution year governing his claim, and was entitled to benefit at a reduced rate. All disability benefit due to him to 4 April 1983, after which date he was certified fit to resume work, was issued to him on 20 April 1983.

678.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in paying disability benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Cork who has been waiting five weeks for payment.

: The person concerned claimed disability benefit but only submitted an intermediate medical certificate indicating that he was incapable of work on 29 March 1983. A further intermediate certificate dated 21 April 1983 has since been received in my Department and payment has accordingly been made from 1 April 1983, fourth day of incapacity, to 21 April 1983. Continuing medical evidence is necessary to establish the duration of incapacity before any payment can be made. He has been requested to clarify whether he was ill before 29 March and, if he was, to submit medical evidence covering the period.
