Vol. 342 No. 1

Local Government (Financial Provisions) (No. 2) Bill, 1983: Order for Second Stage.

Bill entitled an Act to enable local authorities and sanitary authorities to make certain charges and to amend section 9 of the Local Government (Financial Provisions) Act, 1978.

When is it proposed to take Second Stage?

On Tuesday next, subject to agreement between the Whips.

It cannot be taken on Tuesday next.

The matter can be discussed between the Whips.

This is the Bill to reintroduce local rates.

The rates that Fianna Fáil abolished.

The rates that the Labour Party said they would not bring back.

(Interruptions.)

Order. I am calling item No. 2.

Can the Minister say if there is a deadline in regard to that Bill passing all Stages?

There is not.

There is no rush in regard to it, in other words.

There is a certain urgency about it.

Perhaps it would be time enough taking it after the Finance Bill has concluded.

Second Stage ordered for Tuesday, 10 May 1983.
