Vol. 342 No. 5

Written Answers. - Reconstruction Grant.

405.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will now approve a reconstruction grant for a person (details supplied) in County Louth as the floor area of his house does not exceed the maximum allowable for grant purposes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is no record in my Department of an application from the person named for a reconstruction grant. There is, however, an application for a new house grant and an inspection of the house showed that the floor area is in excess of the maximum allowable (1,346 sq.ft.) for grant purposes. Consequently the application was rejected and the applicant has been so informed.

The decision in this case hinges on the question as to whether the attic space is developed or not. I am satisfied on the basis of reports by my Department's inspectors that the attic space in this house is not undeveloped and as such must be regarded as part of the floor area of the house for grant purposes.
