Vol. 342 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Donegal Housing Schemes.

435.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the considerable delays in advertising housing schemes at Dungloe and Burtonport, County Donegal for tender.

The advertising of tenders for these schemes is a matter for Donegal County Council to consider having regard to the amount of capital available for their housing programme and provided that appropriate procedures applying to the provision of local authority houses are complied with, including the clearance of layout, house plans and specification.

I understand that revised layout plans for the Dungloe scheme and layout and revised house plans for the Burtonport scheme are at present being prepared by the county council.

436.

asked the Minister for the Environment when it is proposed to commence the housing scheme at Arranmore Island, County Donegal.

This is a matter for Donegal County Council under existing procedures which allow local authorities to build schemes of up to 60 houses, without my prior sanction, subject to compliance with general standards, clearance of plans and costings and keeping within the available capital allocation.

Layout and house plans for a scheme at Arranmore which the council recently submitted to my Department have now been cleared subject to further consideration by the council of certain recommendations which have been made.
