Vol. 342 No. 5

Written Answers. - Louth Workers' Redundancy Pay.

638.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will use his good offices on behalf of the workers of a firm (details supplied) in County Louth who have not been paid their minimum notice or redundancy pay; and if he is satisfied that the receiver has and is complying fully with current legislation regarding those workers who have lost their employment.

The receiver has been in touch with my Department about this case. I understand that he has a meeting with union representatives on 9 May 1983 and that the employees have been advised to make application for payment of their statutory redundancy lump sums from the Redundancy Fund. The applications will be given immediate attention when they are received.

In regard to the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act, 1973, I understand that the receiver has advised the employees to refer their claims to the Employment Appeals Tribunal in accordance with that Act. The procedures being followed are in accordance with those prescribed under the relevant legislation in cases where employers fail to meet their statutory obligations towards their employees.
