Vol. 343 No. 4

Written Answers. - Laois Housing Grants.

374.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give approval to an application for a grant from a person (details supplied) in County Laois for the provision of invalid accommodation as the application has been submitted by Laois County Council.

It is the function of a housing authority to determine whether an individual applicant is eligible for grant purposes under the disabled persons' scheme, and Laois County Council have been informed accordingly in this case.

375.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make money available to Laois County Council to commence the building of rural cottages, as many of the approved applicants are on the waiting list for over five years and all are living in very bad housing, some of which is in a dangerous condition and if he will notify the council of his intention before a special housing meeting which has been called for June 16.

Laois County Council's claim for capital to finance new housing schemes, including 19 rural cottages which the council wish to commence this year, is at present being examined in my Department in conjunction with similar claims received from other housing authorities and I hope to be in a position to notify a further capital allocation to the housing authorities concerned in the near future.
