Vol. 343 No. 4

Written Answers. - Mackerel Deal with Egypt.

614.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the value of the mackerel deal negotiated by the former Minister when accompanied by officials to Egypt some time ago; and, if he will confirm whether the order was fully completed and paid for in full; if not, the amount still to be collected from Egypt; and if any financial guarantees were given by BIM, in regard to the full completion of the order.

A contract was concluded on 14 November 1982 for the supply of whole frozen mackerel to Egypt to the value of about IR3.5 million. Because of the fact that the parties to the contract on the Irish side comprise a number of private firms it would be inappropriate for me to give further details. I can say, however, that no financial guarantees were given by BIM on foot of this contract.
