Written Answers. - Income Tax Refund.

670.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a refund of income tax applied for some weeks ago, has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that an application for a refund of tax suffered under PAYE on the grounds of unemployment was submitted by the taxpayer to the inspector of taxes on 31 March 1983. The inspector wrote to the taxpayer on 13 April 1983 for additional information required to process the claim, but no reply was received. The commissioner's inquiries have disclosed that the inspector's letter was not in fact received by the taxpayer as it was returned unanswered to the inspector's office on 25 May 1983. The letter was re-issued to the taxpayer on 3 June 1983. On receipt of the details requested the inspector will review the position and any refund due will be made.
