asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be repaired properly for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin whose telephone is out of order on a regular basis.

Service was disconnected from this subscriber on two occasions in the past few months for non-payment of account. A fault which occurred subsequently was repaired within a few days.

The subscriber still complains of poor quality of service and this is at present being specially investigated by engineering staff.

Service has been provided for the person named.

It had been planned to provide a kiosk at Aughacashla. However, the programme for the provision of rural kiosks is under review at present in the light of the financial position generally and it is not possible at this stage to say when a kiosk may be provided at the location in question.

700.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a night telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Kerry.

Night service has not been applied for by the subscriber at the address given. It is not practicable to provide night service in this area until conversion to automatic working of the telephone exchange at Ballyferriter later this year.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in providing a telephone service for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as the application has been made for three years; and when service will be provided.

It has not been possible to provide service so far for the person named because of the large volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the district and a shortage of equipment at the local telephone exchange. It is expected that service will be provided within about a year.

705.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange to have a business telephone provided for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as the application has been made and service is needed urgently.

Service will be provided within about six months which is, I regret, the earliest time within which the necessary exchange etc. work can be completed.

706.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of difficulties being experienced by telephone users in an area (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that telephone service in the Leenane area is less than satisfactory. This is because the area is served from Clifden by 21 miles of overhead cable over mountainous and boggy terrain. The line has been subject to damage by storms, lightning etc. In addition the ESB supply in the area is subject to occasional failure.

It is intended to renew about 11 miles of that part of the line most prone to damage. Work on this will begin about the end of this year and, when completed, should ensure a satisfactory service. In the meantime some improvement can be expected within the next month when a new radio link between Galway and Clifden is opened.

707.

Terms are being quoted to the person named and service will be supplied as soon as possible after the necessary agreement has been signed.

The cables used to serve other applicants on the same road were not suitable for this address.

711.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will investigate the telephone service of a person (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

712.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for the transfer of a telephone for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin; the reason it has not yet been possible to arrange a transfer when the premises are only approximately 150 yards from each other; and when the transfer will take place.

It has not been possible to transfer a telephone for the person named so far because there is no spare cable pair at the new address. The transfer will be effected as soon as possible but it is unlikely that the necessary engineering work will be completed before the end part of this year.

713.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the unusually long delay in providing a telephone service for a parish community centre (details supplied) in Dublin 7.

716.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will investigate as a matter of urgency the telephone account of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 10; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This case has been thoroughly investigated on several occasions including a check of the subscriber's meter and exchange equipment and no grounds are seen for amending her account.

717.
