Vol. 343 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tolka River Pollution.

627.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the continuing pollution of the Tolka River from various sources including a meat factory, public house, printing works and a drain at Abbotstown Bridge; and the action he proposes to take on this matter.

I am aware that the results of monitoring carried out by An Foras Forbartha show that the River Tolka is polluted to varying degrees over its course. Under the Local Government (Water Pollution) Act, 1977, it is a matter for local authorities to investigate instances of pollution and to take any necessary remedial action. I have, accordingly, asked Dublin County Council to investigate the specific matters raised by the Deputy.
