645.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be transferred for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9.

A removal of service will be provided for the person named as soon as possible but it is unlikely that the necessary engineering work will be completed before the end of this year.

646.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will waive part of a telephone bill in the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 as he has been overcharged.

The answer is no. The account in this case has been rechecked and was found to be correct as issued.

647.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has completed the investigation into a telephone account for a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon as was requested on 14 December 1982.

The investigation of this subscriber's account has just been completed and the result will be communicated to him shortly.

648.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange to have a senior official of his Department visit a firm (details supplied) in County Roscommon to discuss serious problems with telephone service and accounts; and the reason an official was not in contact with this firm as agreed in December 1982.

The subscriber was visited on 10 December 1982 as agreed with him. A further visit to the subscriber is being arranged.

649.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has made any decision on redundancies at Sligo telephone exchange; and if he will also outline in detail the agreed redundancy scheme for telephonists with the POWU.

There are no proposals to make staff redundant at Sligo Telephone Exchange. Staff at that exchange who wish to resign of their own accord may, however, avail themselves of a voluntary retirement scheme negotiated with the Post Office Workers' Union. This scheme is the same as that applied to operating staff at manual exchanges which was introduced early in 1982.

650.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will investigate the circumstances surrounding the overcharging of the telephone account of a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon; and the action he proposes to take to prevent the abuse of the system which has resulted in calls charged to this account but not made by subscriber.

The matter has been fully investigated and there is no evidence of overcharging or of calls being wrongly charged to the subscriber concerned.
