Vol. 343 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Transport.

713.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give free transport to pupils in the Kilcolgan area, County Galway, who are attending second-level schools in Gort even though they are outside the catchment area on the basis that they have traditionally attended Gort school from this area and that some of the students involved are now doing their leaving certificate and have received transport for the past four years, as such a concession has been given to pupils in West Wicklow and County Clare.

Kilcolgan is in the Oranmore catchment area. Oranmore is a fully adequate centre. The pupils in question who are attending Gort centre qualify only for catchment boundary transport to that centre on the usual conditions.

The conditions relating to the conveyance of catchment boundary pupils have not been waived in any comparable case in Countíes Wicklow or Clare.
