asked the Minister for Justice if he will give details of the crime rate in an area (details supplied) in County Meath over the past 12 months; and the percentage that this is up over the previous five years in (a) drug offences, (b) robberies and (c) all other crimes.

Limerick East): The latest published crime statistics are in respect of the year 1981. Statistics of indictable offences reported or known to the Garda as having been committed in the Garda sub-district covering the area in question in 1981 and in 1977 are as follows:

Group I Offences against the person

Group II Offences against property with violence

Group III Larcenies etc.

Group IV Other indictable offences

There were no drugs offences reported in 1981 or in 1977.

Offences involving stealing are included in Group II or Group III depending on the circumstances of the offence. (Robbery is stealing with the use of force or a threat to use force and comes within Group II.) It would require a disproportionate amount of Garda time and effort to establish how many such offences are included in the above figures.
