Vol. 344 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Donegal Water Main Extension.

302.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any objections to a contractor being appointed by Donegal County Council to undertake the water main extension to Brinaleck now that the work has been sanctioned.

The acceptance of the relevant tenders and a Local Loans Fund loan of £412,000 have been sanctioned for the extension of the Rosses Regional Water Scheme to Brinaleck. It is now a matter for Donegal County Council to determine when to sign the contract and instruct the contractor to commence work. I understand that the council have deferred proceeding with this scheme pending the outcome of an application made to me for confirmation of a provisional order for the abstraction of water from the Gweedore River for the Rosses Regional Water Scheme. The hearing into the objections to the order was held on 29 March 1983 and I am awaiting the report of the inspector. In the circumstances, it would not be appropriate for me to make any comment on the matter.
