Vol. 344 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rateable Valuation of Property.

618.

asked the Minister for the Environment the total rateable valuation of property and the approximate yield in revenue; and if all of this property was fully charged for rates at prevailing poundages in 1982.

The present gross valuation of all hereditaments amounts to £24,454,601. Gross valuations in 1982 reduced to an effective valuation of £22,313,952 by the various statutory remissions in valuations and charged at prevailing 1982 rate poundages could have yielded approximately £355,000,000. However, rates relieved on domestic and certain other properties amounted to £148.811 million — of which £138.000 million was recouped to the local authorities under the domestic grant. A further £89.629 million was relieved under the agricultural grant scheme 1982. The actual rate warrant for collection (excluding arrears) was £116,775,000 of which £85,081,000 or 72.86 per cent was collected. Uncollected rates on land in respect of 1982 resulting from the High Court Judgment on land valuations amounted to £14,846,000.
