Vol. 344 No. 1

Written Answers. - Capital Gains Tax.

643.

asked the Minister for Finance the total value of actual income assessable as capital gains; the number and value of allowances claimed; the taxable income; and the tax collected in each of the last four financial years.

The net receipt of capital gains tax for each of the last four financial years is as follows:

£ million

1979

4.00

1980

5.99

1981

6.17

1982

8.18

Statistics are not available which would enable the other information requested by the Deputy to be given. To obtain this information would require an individual examination of all capital gains tax returns for the years in question and such an examination could only be carried out at a disproportionate cost.
