Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Longford School Playing Pitch.

160.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of repeated applications to her from County Longford Vocational Education Committee seeking the provision of an all-weather playing pitch at St. Oliver Plunkett vocational school, Longford; if she has any plans and a time scale for providing the pitch; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The County Longford Vocational Education Committee has applied to my Department for a grant of £30,000 to develop an all-weather playing pitch at St. Oliver Plunkett Vocational School, Longford town. In view of the continuing heavy demand for essential teaching accommodation generally, and as all-weather playing pitches do not form part of the normal provision in second-level schools, the committee has been informed that its proposal cannot be approved.
