Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Athlone By-Pass.

193.

asked the Minister for the Environment the moneys allocated and spent to date on the provision of the Athlone relief road; the works carried out to date; the finance allocated for this road for 1983; and the programme of work envisaged for the current year for this scheme.

Road grants totalling £5,610,000, including £3,100,000 in 1983 have been allocated to Westmeath and Roscommon County Councils for the provision of a by-pass at Athlone. The payments to date by my Department amount to £2,795,000. The expenditure was incurred in fees, the acquisition of lands and in trial works for the embankment. The 1983 programme of work includes further land acquisitions, continuing trial works and some construction.
