Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Coal Dust Pollution.

223.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the steps he intends to take to reduce the level of coal dust pollution in a residential area (details supplied) in Dublin 8 which is causing much distress to the residents there; and if he will recommend the resiting of these coal merchants for health and environmental reasons.

Enforcement of the provisions of the Control of Atmospheric Pollution Regulations, 1970, is a matter for Dublin Corporation as sanitary authority for the area in which the company in question is situated. I understand that, arising from discussions between officers of Dublin Corporation and the owners of the coal-yard, steps taken by the company have had the effect of alleviating the dust problem, and that the company has also indicated its intention to implement certain recommendations made by the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards with a view to further improving the situation.
