Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

267.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the long delay in the payment of new house grants in County Offaly; if there is an industrial dispute concerning members of his Department working in County Offaly; if so, the efforts he has made to solve this dispute; and when he expects normal resumption of work.

268.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the long delay in the payment of new house grants in County Laois.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 267 and 268 together. Earlier this year inspections in Counties Loais and Offaly were held up by an industrial relations problem relating to a vacancy in the inspectorate staff which came within the scope of current restrictions on the filling of vacant posts. However, this matter has now been resolved and normal work has been resumed.

269.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of outstanding claims for new house grants; and when he expects normal resumption of the investigation of these claims.

The estimated total number of new house grants cases awaiting inspection in the country as a whole is 2,660. As regards the second part of the question, the industrial relations problem which affected inspections in four counties has now been resolved and normal work has been resumed.
