Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Garden Shed Imports.

350.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if an IDA assisted industry has been importing garden sheds thus causing a factory closure in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Industrial Development Authority have not grant-aided the particular company who are importing garden sheds. The importing company are an associate company of a firm who did receive grant-aid to manufacture wooden fencing and other timber products fencing and other timber products not including sheds.

IDA grant-assistance principally for the manufacture of garden sheds was also given to the firm which are about to close. While I acknowledge that imports are one factor in the closure of the firm represented by the Deputy, I do not accept that they are the principal cause.
