Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Production of Concrete Products.

360.

Mr. Leonard

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he is satisfied that we have adequate manufacturing capacity at present in the production of concrete products; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that there is, at present, adequate manufacturing capacity to meet existing demand in the concrete products sector generally.

This position has been confirmed by the findings of a study into the sector in 1982 which was carried out under the aegis of the Industrial Development Authority. The study revealed that there is excess production capacity for all major product groups within the sector and that this situation is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
