asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry whether any steps are being taken to encourage farmers to avail themselves of grants for tree planting under the western development package.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 413 and 414 together.
Grant aid up to a maximum of £800 per hectare, related to the approved cost of the work being done, is payable under this scheme. With a view to encouraging participation in the scheme my Department is engaged in various on-going promotional measures, including publicity via the media, exhibits at shows and direct contacts with various farming organisations.
I have arranged for copies of some explanatory leaflets about the scheme to be sent to the Deputy.
